All day yesterday, I thought about what we lost and he still hasn’t fully hit me yet. The music was inspiring, and mood changing. The poetry coming from Tupac could be a total attitude adjustment.
A true artist/poet has been gone for 14 years yesterday and his music still inspires others to create good music and tell the stories of the streets that need to be heard by others. It’s been a long time and that void has not and really will not be filled by others. That is what makes the loss still so painful. We need good music, and all we are getting is bubblegum rap for the most part. We need Biggie, we need Tupac.
When I hear Dear Mama, I think of my own mother, who passed away over twenty years ago. That song as the ability to make me both happy and sad at the same time. It never fails to pull on th heartstrings.
Me and My Girlfriend always gets me to think about how Jay-Z stole my mans shit, and how clever he was with the word play to talk about the criminality and the love of firearms.
I get around brings back memories of college parties and going out to the club chasing the box. That was an immediate party song that would get people up and shaking.
While I have down down the spectrum to agnostic about religion, Hail Mary brings back time in the church as a little boy. Ronin and I used to be ushers in church and sing in the choir. We needed forgiveness for the things that we did as kids.
I don’t know if we will have a poet in the same way as Tupac ever again. It really was disheartening to be watching TV in Hawaii this weekend and seeing the VH1 top 100 performers and to see Tupac in the low 60’s. Rap may not be your particular cup of tea, but to disrespect him and have Rage against the Machine, Cheap Trick and others ahead of him is ludicrous. But, rap music wasn’t even on this list the last time they did it, so it is baby steps…but Beyonce is ahead of him? child please…
We will never know what really happened that night in LV, but, I miss you and mourn would could have been.

I’m back just in time for E’s song of the last several weeks (as Steve might call it). My girlfriend works as publicist and one of her clients is Heineken (awesome, I know). She hooked us up with free vip passes to the Grammy Block Party in Santa Monica benefiting relief for musicians displaced by the floods in Nashville. It was a great time with dope free food (some of which was provided by Stefan from Top Chef season 5) and some nice free booze (Heineken, of course, but also Ludacris’ new cognac, Conjure). The best part, however, was the dope live music, culminating with a great little set by former Tony Toni Tone member Raphael Saadiq. The back-up singers were also the fucking bomb!! It was extremely entertaining and my girl left the event a fully converted Saadiq fan. Now you lucky people get to share in the fun. I thought I’d give you a little taste of his live work (with what looks like the same back-up singers who rocked). Today’s jam: Raphael Saadiq – Dance Tonight, Ask of You and Love That Girl. Enjoy….

I took a little break from the world of blogging due to laziness, but I’m back and ready to deliver on a hot jam to get you going on this fine Saturday night. I’m getting ready to go work the door at a bar in the Valley (live music, good drink specials etc.), so if you’re in the LA area you can come check me out at The Little Rock in Reseda (yes, the home of the Karate Kid). This track popped on in my whip the other day and it is kinda my jam, so now you will get the pleasure of hearing it too. Today’s jam: Al Wilson – Willoughby Brook. (Sorry about the not-so-great video. It was the only one I could find. Don’t look, just listen.)

Yeah yeah, it’s been ages, I know. Turns out that being in a new town and starting a new school has done wonders for my social life. This means, unfortunately for you, that I’ve haven’t gotten around to blogging in some time. I do, however, have a hot little track for your listening pleasure today. I got hyped to these guys via one of my many Pandora radio stations. So far they have failed to disappoint. They seem to be the goods of Australian hip-hop. The featured artist alone makes me confident that they have some talent. Today’s jam: Hilltop Hoods (feat. Pharoahe Monch) – Classic Example. Enjoy….
MJ, I do remember. You should still be with us…R.I.P.
This is a message and a warning. Time flies and before you know it, you have missed something, or you have expired with a grip of regret. Don’t get to that point. You should however look back at the fond times that you have had…like the blog.
Shout out to Erik and Ronin…remember when you guys blogged?
On MJ, what is happening to the Dr., Conrad Murray ? Is he going to get away with it? Now that that the passion of some has died down, I worry about deals being struck. But, ultimately, MJ is still not with us and prosecuting him will not bring him back, so sit back and ride out to the video…

I’m repping something smooth and soothing for this relaxed Sunday afternoon. I just finished watching last night’s UFC fights (haha Chuck Liddell, time to retire) and am getting geared up for the Lakers game later, so I’ll quickly hit off this nice piece of classical music written by a dude with my name. Today’s jam: Erik Satie – Trois Gymnopedies. Enjoy….

I’m back and in action after a full morning of class and ready to break off some more tunes. I’ve got a bunch of homework and such, so I’ll be brief. This song has been on my queue for far too long, so it’s time to share in the goodness. This one’s just a fun little tune that I heard on an episode of “Skins” several months ago. Today’s jam: 6 Day Riot – Every Third Sunday. Enjoy….

Two days in a row?? Oh snap, that’s right, I’m back in action to drop some new flavor in your ear. Maybe not “brand new” flavor, but some hot ish straight from the radio playlists and onto your computer. This one caught my ear a few weeks ago and I threw it on the queue. Now it’s your turn to catch a vibe (if you haven’t already). This stuff is hot. Words to live by. Today’s jam: Jamie Foxx – Quit Your Job. Enjoy….
