Karma is a BITCH! Bernie Madoff assulted in prison
December 24, 2009
Even prisoners have a code of conduct. You had to know that this one was in the works…ABCNews tells the story
Bernie Madoff was admitted to Duke University Hospital last Friday with serious injuries consistent with an assault, an ABC affiliate has learned.
Sources told WTVD, the ABC affiliate in Raleigh Durham, North Carolina, that the convicted Ponzi schemer had facial fractures, broken ribs and a collapsed lung and was discharged from Duke two days ago. Officials at the Butner federal prison, where Madoff is serving a 150-year sentence, would not confirm the report.
You didn’t think that prisoners now people that invested with you? There are other guys, just like you who are never going to get out of prison and they can be paid to do things that others, who have a hope of getting out, do not want to do and get their hands dirty.
Butner spokesperson Cathy Elsea said at the time that Madoff was transferred to the Federal Medical Center at Butner on Friday. The 71-year-old Madoff has been imprisoned at Butner since July.
Neither Elsea nor Madoff’s lawyer, Ira Sorkin, would disclose why Madoff had been moved. “The potential reasons for an inmate to transfer are numerous,” Elsea told ABC News, “and we do not release those specific reasons.”
I will speak up for the hospital. Mr. Madoff got his ass whooped when he wouldn’t pay for protection, claiming that he had been wiped out. inmates, not wanting an I.O.U. or promissory note, decided to take out the vig, (or juice, the interest payment on a loan) out of his ass.
Sara Revell, warden of the Federal Medical Center at Butner was not available for comment. Deb Gonzales, acting warden of Butner’s low security prison, declined ABC’s request for an interview.
Madoff pleaded guilty in March to 11 felonies and admitted that his Ponzi scheme began almost 20 years ago. On June 29, he was sentenced to the maximum time allowed, 150 years, and ordered to forfeit $170 billion in assets.
Butner is close to Raleigh and Durham in central North Carolina, and federal sentencing attorney Alan Ellis characterizes the facility as “one of the crown jewels of the federal prison system.”
“It looks and feels like a college campus,” said Ellis, who has clients currently serving time there and says it’s a popular assignment request for many white collar criminals. Ellis, author of the “Federal Prison Guidebook,” said that in addition to the many graduate students from neighboring University of North Carolina and Duke University that intern at the prison, “The staff is good there. And I always say happy staff makes for happy inmates.”
I have been to a bunch of colleges, either attending or on debate tournaments, and not at a single one, have a seen or heard about someone getting an actual physical assbeating. I came some metaphorical ones in debate and took one or two, but that is about it. By the extent of the damages, someone (or someones) took their time in making sure that they sent the correct message.
Look at the people that Bernie is hanging with. These are not the types that I saw around college campuses. You might have a hipster or two, but that was about the extent of trouble. While we all might feel like beating a hipsters ass, no one has actually took the extra step of doing the deed.
Madoff’s new neighbors at Butner range from a convicted terrorist to a mob boss. The “Blind Sheik,” Omar Abdel-Rahman, who was behind the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, is already housed at Butner’s federal medical center, and Carmine Persico, former head of a Colombo crime family, is an inmate at one of two medium security facilities there.
I don’t want to put a crime on someone who didn’t commit it, but I bet that Carmine could have it done. Also, I bet that Carmine knows people that lost money with Madoff. But, things happen….
